The time for Nature is now
This will require significant investment but also a changed mindset, recognising and quantifying the benefits for business and society as a whole. There is a huge amount to do. Making the built environment, its environs and the vast amounts of corporate or publicly owned and stewarded green and blue infrastructure fit for nature recovery must be a collaborative effort.
Encouragingly, demand for nature positive solutions is being stimulated by the legislative and policy driven path towards biodiversity net gain and equivalents.
However, that is not the whole story. It is not possible to achieve net zero without nature recovery, and it will not be possible to achieve nature recovery without biodiversity.
Clients, planners, designers, contactors, FM service providers, suppliers and service users throughout the built environment sector can help make this happen.
Better for the environment, better for productivity, better for wellbeing.
About the Group:
Our newly formed Nature Recovery Leadership Group has a core focus for 2024-25:
“To educate and upskill more people about biodiversity, nature positive solutions and their role in nature recovery.”
There is a shared desire and need for all elements of School Partnership to engage. The group is already addressing the fast developing agendas for external reporting standards and addressing deep supply chain impacts, as well as meeting the challenges of delivering against mandatory biodiversity net gain and its equivalents.
Tasks being undertaken include:
- Developing content to engage colleagues at all levels including project delivery, commercial, procurement, customers, and supply chain and in securing nature positive outcomes locally and globally;
- Building an exciting and challenging events programme to engage and inform stakeholders;
- Collaboration on net gain strategies and practice, creating case studies to demonstrate innovation and the art of the possible;
- Developing and growing relationships with regulatory bodies, NGOs and corporate reporting stakeholder organisations.
