Built Environment Schools Trust and Supply Chain Sustainability School Launch Sustainability Clubs Powered By Leading Industry Platform

Published 29th Apr 25 - by harrietdownes

The Built Environment Schools Trust (BE Schools Trust) has partnered with the Supply Chain Sustainability School to launch a nationwide education initiative that gives young people access to free, industry-accredited sustainability training – delivered directly through the Supply Chain Sustainability School’s established digital platform.

The collaboration supports the creation of “BE Sustainable” after-school clubs in secondary schools across the UK. These clubs will use the Supply Chain Sustainability School’s platform – widely used across the construction and infrastructure industries – to help students build knowledge in sustainability, climate action, and emerging career opportunities in the built environment.

Bringing industry expertise into the classroom

The Supply Chain Sustainability School’s platform, accessed by near 10,000 companies annually, provides curated, CPD-accredited learning content on key sustainability issues facing the sector – from carbon reduction to circular economy practices and sustainability skills. Now, through the partnership with BE Schools Trust, these same resources will be made available to students through tailored workshops and club sessions.

“Our platform has helped thousands of professionals across the supply chain upskill in sustainability. With BE Schools Trust, we’re now bringing that same learning into classrooms – showing students how their actions today can shape a more sustainable future,” said Ian Heptonstall, Co-Founder and Director of Supply Chain Sustainability School.

Supporting carbon action plans in schools

The initiative aligns with national requirements for schools to develop Carbon Action Plans, and complements the growing number of student-led Climate and Net Zero clubs. BE Sustainable clubs will provide a structured and practical way for schools to engage students with these efforts.

Using the platform, students will explore real-world sustainability challenges and solutions, supported by resources developed by industry professionals. They will also gain insight into the types of careers available in the built environment, especially in areas where there is a growing skills shortage – such as digital construction, low-carbon design, and environmental management.

“BE Sustainable clubs will help students take meaningful action in their schools, communities, and everyday lives. By connecting them to industry content and career pathways, we’re building a bridge between education and the sustainability jobs of the future,” said Terry Watts, CEO of BE Schools Trust.

Creating a more sustainable and inclusive future

This partnership represents a major step forward in building a more diverse, informed and sustainability-focused workforce – one that reflects the communities it serves.

By embedding practical sustainability learning into schools through a trusted industry platform, BE Schools Trust and the Supply Chain Sustainability School are helping to prepare young people for the challenges ahead – and giving them the tools to lead.
