Social Value is more important than ever and has a key role to play in tackling the challenges faced in the built environment
Find out moreThe long-term wellbeing and resilience of our communities has never been more critical, and the world of social value is maturing rapidly. Organisations can no longer afford to ignore the communities in which they work. Investors and clients are holding their supply chain to higher standards of accountability, with robust measurement and reporting requirements focusing on long-term, evidence based outcomes.
In late 2020, the Government published its Social Value Model in the Procurement Policy Note 06/20 (PPN 06/20). It subsequently published guidance on exactly how to use the Model, and metrics to measure impact. This has the useful effect of defining exactly how organisations can implement the Public Services (Social value) Act 2012. The PPN 06/20 requires central government procurement to explicitly evaluate social value, with a minimum 10% weighting of score put on the topic.
Measuring Social Value requires a deeper understanding of organisational objectives, supply chains, and the supplier base. The purpose of the School’s Social Value Tools report is to assist the Partners and Members of the Supply Chain Sustainability School with relevant information required in understanding the narrative behind the measurement of Social Value, including: what parameters should be considered for Social Value measurement, what Social Value reporting tools are currently available as well as with case studies demonstrating the different approaches to measuring Social Value that can be taken.
